The magic of eight Stradivaris in Los Angeles (March 29, 2014)

Stradosphere: a Strad –Studded Gala Evening put together by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra took place at the California Club in downtown Los Angeles on March 29. Conductor Jeffery Kahane, concertmaster Margaret Batjer, together with a group of world class violinists, joined by the members of the Orchestra, performed a memorable concert featuring works by Bach, Vivaldi and Piazzolla.
Unique protagonists of the evening were eight rare and extraordinary violins hand-crafted by Italian master violin maker Antonio Stradivari: Serdet, Ruby, Kreisler, Leonora Jackson, Titian, Milstein, Beechback and Red Mendelssohn.
Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), proclaimed “America’s finest chamber orchestra” by Public Radio International, has established itself among the world’s top musical ensembles. Since 1997, LACO has performed under acclaimed conductor and pianist Jeffery Kahane, hailed by critics as a “Visionary” and “a conductor of uncommon intellect, insight and musical integrity”. Under Kahane’s leadership, the Orchestra maintains its status as a preeminent interpreter of historical masterworks and a champion of contemporary composers. During its 45 year history, the Orchestra has made 31 recordings toured Europe, South America and Japan, performed across North America, earning adulation from audiences and critics alike, and garnered eight ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming.
