Italian Night at the Palm Springs Film Festival with Director Paolo Sorrentino (January 10, 2014)

The Consul General and the  Palm Springs International Film Festival, now at its 25th edition, hosted a Gala event on January 10 in honor of the Italian participants, including Paolo Sorrentino, director of “The Great Beauty”, selected as the Italian entry for this year’s Accademy Awads and screened at the Festival right before the Gala night. The Italian entries to the Palm Springs International Film Festival represent a solid cross-section of Italian cinema, including the most promising representatives of the new generation of film-makers. “Slow Food Story” by Stefano Sardo, “ Those Happy Days” directed by Daniele Lucchetti, ”The Mercury Factor” Luca Barbareschi Director, “A Five Stars Life” directed by Maria Sole Tognazzi, “Miele” by Valeria Golino and “Salvo” directed by Fabio Grassidonia and Antonio Piazza have all been screened at the Festival to great public acclaim.
In greeting the guests at the Viceroy Hotel, Consul General Perrone introduced the Italian delegation (including Directors Paolo Sorrentino and Angelo Bozzolini and Producers Viola Prestieri and Niccolo’ Giuliano). In his remarks the Consul General stressed in particular the significance of “The Great Beauty” as an expression of the enduring creativity of the Italian cinema and its continuing ability to produce memorable masterpieces.
