The Los Angeles Italian community mourns Joseph A. Gatto’s tragic death (November 25, 2013)

The Italian community in L.A. gathered around Joseph A. Gatto’s family today  at the funeral Mass celebration at the Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Mr. Gatto was the innocent victim of  a senseless, heinus act of violence on November 13.
Son Mike Gatto – Representative for California’s 43rd District  - and daughter Mariann – Executive Director of IAMLA, the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles – delivered the eulogy, remarking on how important the Italian heritage was for their father and how he transmitted the love for it to his children. Joseph Gatto was an admired artist and a beloved educator , as attested by the presence of many of his students , whose skills  in teaching and inspiring youth were recognized also by President Reagan in 1888 and President Bush in 1889. The Consulate General and the Italian institutions throughout Los Angeles present their heartfelt condolences to the Gatto Family.
