Columbus Day Celebrated throughout Southern California (October 14, 2013)

The Columbus Day celebrations took place in Southern California as traditionally done over the years to mark a special day for Italian Americans’ heritage and identity.

In Santa Ana on October 6th a ceremony was held at the Courtyard of the Bowers Museum chaired by Commendatore Frank De Santis and organized by the Orange County American Italian Renaissance Foundation Renaissance Lodge OSIA and Italian Cultural Arts Council. A  special award was given to the football player Vince Ferragamo.

On October 13 celebrations for the day of Columbus were held at Casa Italiana in downtown Los Angeles. The event, complete with official remarks, luncheon and live entertainment, was presented by United Lodges of Southern California, Order Sons of Italy in America and Federated Italo – Americans of Southern California.

On October 18 at Los Angeles City Hall October will be officially proclaimed Italian Heritage Month.
