Architecture through ArcSkills supports the learning process in East L.A. (May 15, 2013)

“ArcSkills” is an innovative teaching program created by Italian architect Guido Icardi, which El Sereno Middle School has adopted for its 6th graders. The program aims at teaching important skills both in terms of academics (geometry, math, history, language) and of social interaction (cooperation, self-organization, problem solving, leadership). To this end, it uses the reconstruction of classic Roman and Italian architectural structures with special building blocks patented by Mr. Icardi.

Consul General Perrone visited the El Sereno Middle School and Magnet Center accompanied by Massimo Sarti, Deputy Director of the Italian Cultural Institute. Welcomed by Dr. Frances Gipson, Principal of the over 1600 student strong School, the Consul General illustrated the commitment of the Consulate General to strengthening Italy’s presence and the exciting possibilities offered by intercomprehension-based programs of aimed at teaching the Italian language to Spanish speaking students.
